The infection of human papillomavirus (HPV): The virus is a STD (sexually transmitted disease). There are more 50 types HPV that can infect human. Typed 16 and 18 usually infect the tissues of cervix and result in moderate or severe dysplasia and carcinoma in situ.

Researchers find more than ninety percent of cervical cancer contains human HPV DNA. However, although infection of HPV dose be the risk factor for cervical carcinoma, many wemon infected by HPV do not develop cervical cancer.
