About Breast Cancer

In the western countries, the risk of developing breast cancer is 1 in 13 in a woman’s life. Actually, the mortality is only I in 43 dying from breast cancer due to the early screening and advanced treatment.

What causes breast cancer?

The development of breast cancer is the same to other cancers that cells grow and multiply in an uncontrolled manner. The exact causes of breast cancer is still unclear, however, we are aware of a number of risk factors and ways to reduce the risk of breast cancer.

The risk factors of breast cancer

Age

The risk of breast cancer increases with the age. So, it is very important to undergo regular breast mammography for a woman especially over the age of 50 years old.

Family history

The breast cancer is related to a specific gene in a family. However, only 7 percentage cases of breast cancer are involved in this.

Reproductive factors

A woman who has her first child before the age of 23 is easier to get breast cancer than the age of 30. Breast feeding for at least three months also is a protective factor.

It is important to eat from the widest possible range of foods every day, including fruit and lots of vegetables, dairy products, cheese, yoghurt and eggs, wholegrain bread and cereals, rice and pasta, and seed or olive oils. Reduce dietary animal fat and protein intake

Diet

The best diet to prevent breast cancer includes:

  • High in fiber, such as berries and oatmeal that are rich in soluble fiber
  • Rich in fruit and vegetable,
  • Low in animal fat, Eat smaller portions of fresh red meats (beef, lamb and pork), limiting them to just 2 or 3 meals per week

The risk of breast cancer can be decreased to half if a woman consumes at least five portions a day of fruit and vegetables.

Soya bean and rye are rich in plant estrogens, which play a role in reducing the risk of breast cancer and bowel cancer

Exercise

Do exercises at least half an hour of moderate physical activity at least 5 times a week. The more active you are, the more you cut your risk of breast cancer. Being overweight is also a risk of factor for breast cancer. So, maintain your body in check

Avoid excessive alcohol

Pay attention to the warning of breast cancer

There are a variety of forms in the early stage of breast cancer; however, some common warning signing includes that:

  • Dimpling of the skin and changes of breast texture or sharp
  • Changes of nipple shape and unexplained discharge
  • Breast lumps and skin thickening
  • Underarm tenderness and skin changes

Early detection of the change of breast can minimizes the potential for the smallest degree. So it is important to seek medical advice about and abnormal breast changes.

Breast self-examine

The cancer council offers the following recommendations:

  • Self-examine your breast monthly from the age of 35
  • Examine your breast in your doctor at least one year
